Bookbinder Megan Stallworthy

About me

I studied Bookbinding in Brighton over 30 years ago, and moved back to the West Country to set up my business. I have been making and repairing books and teaching bookbinding ever since.

Working from my studio in the small West Somerset town of Wiveliscombe, I make sketchbooks and notebooks by hand using traditional bookbinding techniques and archival materials, with a contemporary feel. I teach workshops in traditional and contemporary bookbinding, and mentor artists, designers and photographers making books.

My approach

Drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of paper, linen and leather, I aim to make books that feel calm and subtle, brought to life by areas of colour, pattern or texture. The tactile nature of a book is also important to me; there is something so magical about the feel of a book in your hands and the movement of the turning pages. My books are practical, made to be used and to last.

When not making books I can often be found reading them, or walking in the hills and woods of Exmoor.
